It used to work great. The news articles would be based on my interests, history, selection of news sources, and the area I live. But more than a few months ago it stopped doing any of that. Now the articles are from every area that I DONT live, totally random, things I’m not interested in, it won’t let me change the settings or selection of sources I follow - I have tried to make changes by unfollowing the sources it has randomly selected and selecting all new sources only to have everything immediately go back to what I don’t want and just changed. And now most of the news sources and topics have zero articles to read. I’ve even deleted the app several times hoping that would reset things, but nothing works.

I’ve been trying to rearrange my sources but they keep reverting to their original place. Several of the sources don’t have any content. This is happening on my iPad as well as my Android phone. This is a Google problem, it’s not either of my devices

Basically you get press releases for corporations and news feeds for places you don’t think or even care about. Price is right……free. If I ever need the storage space its gone.

It does not ever respect your requests to show certain topics less or more. It continues to serve me sports news even though I never want it. Lately it is serving a lot more corporate press releases directly from corporate websites. It's not a useful app anymore.

I’ve been using this app daily for years, but the most annoying things have somehow never been fixed. - the article crashes halfway through all the time. ALL THE TIME. I usually open the article I want to read in my browser so it doesn’t crash. - ads upon ads upon ads. Literally so many ads that they cover up other ads. - video ads play sound even if the article is closed. The app needs to be restarted to get rid of the sound. The reason I stick with it is because it gives me articles I’m interested in. But other apps are getting better at it - and don’t crash articles constantly.

It’s truly astonishing how bad this app is. After using for the past year or two, I think I’m finally going to uninstall. The app is either constantly crashing showing a picture of a tipped over ice cream cone, or is showing so much ad ware or sponsor generated dynamic content that news becomes nearly impossible to read. And that’s not even considering all the content it serves that is locked behind paywalls.

Sometimes I do not get my notifications unless I open the app and refresh then they start coming in again. My background app refresh is on. PLEASE FIX ASAP!

Besides news not being breaking News or 1 day old news. Now the whole World News section has disappeared?? Google unlike Apple News should invest in its products and provide users breaking live news and up to date coverage

The functionality of this app is not what one might expect from a huge company like Alphabet! Simply put, every time an article is selected, you are rolling the die on whether the app will allow the article to function. Sometimes, the article will just not load at all. You can use the back arrow and try your luck, but it is never clear if you will actually get to read the thing. Not only that, sometimes you get stuck in articles because swiping down does not actually reveal the buttons to close the article. Your only recourse is to force close the entire app, reopen it. You will have to find your place again, however. Google has a knack for making cool stuff and then ignoring it in the future. The rarely improve their stuff and, eventually, you just find some other provider for the same service. (Google WiFi, for example)

Privacidad

Regardless of your settings, Google News will only open links using their internal browser instead of whatever browser you normally use. This means you can’t access your bookmarks, can’t use extensions, and can’t use adblockers. And if you support a site by subscribing, too bad: since you can’t use your password manager, you can’t sign in here. Just another invasion of privacy by Google.

Even if you click on thousands of slow, fewer stories like this, they keep showing up every day. I hate when more unwanted stories appear.

I’m appalled at the 4.6 rating. Are people not actually reading articles for more than 60 seconds? My app consistently loses connection or crashes if I read a long article. Making me go back, select the article again, and go back to where I was reading. Only for it to crash again. I know it’s not just this iPhone, as I’ve had the same problem across 2 iPhones. I guess I’m just dumb for hoping Google would fix this eventually. Probably why I haven’t spent money on Google products for years. Apple News, what up girl?

Like so much of big tech, this app’s laziness is strikingly obvious. Do your jobs, PMs. Lazy.

I’ve never been able to read an article without it crashing and having to refresh finally time to delete this garbage.

Doesn’t support custom text sizes like other apps. Unusable for me on my reading device, an iPad mini.

The articles in the feed have gotten more and more trash as the app has progressed. Every other article is a paywalled site. Most articles are now just click bait titles.

Maybe I have done something wrong in the settings but the ads are absolutely overwhelming. Feel like the scene in Ready Player one in which they sell just enough ad space to not induce seizures. All ads with some news on my screen.

This Google News website crashes more often than Stevie Wonder driving in rush-hour. It’s so bloated with ads that navigating the article overwhelms the app and it frequently crashes. You’re better off getting your news from a messenger pigeon.

Get ride of the last update I use to be able to read all my local news now it doesn’t give me anything. I hope google fixes this issue or google will soon be in the history books

This app is great to get news from different perspectives; however, in the middle of reading articles, an error message pops up and you can’t finish reading them without reopening the article and trying to find where you left off…then it will kick you out again. Annoying.

The ads are overwhelming any meaningful use of the app. I can’t read anything without constant distractions. Enough!

Can we get a non democrat controlled version? Maybe one that is neutral when it comes to politics…

Es buena app lo unico malo es que quieres leer una noticia y te encuentras con millones de anuncios y esa vaina de aceptar cookies es muy incomodo, termino pensando que me va a caer un virus en el sistema, prefiero leer solo el titulo.

Way too many small town news stories that are clear across the country and definitely not relevant to me. Who cares if a new store is opening up on Main Street? And the storm system clear across the country. And who cares what the editor of Podunk Times has to say about the president? Need more relevant news to be useful.

Using iOS 18.3.2 on iPhone and the app no longer connects. (Works on the iPad.) Constantly says offline and not connected to Internet while ALL other apps work completely. Won’t allow login bc it says it cannot connect to the Internet. Again, ALL other works correctly except this one. And it doesn’t allow you to report a problem because all it does is take you to the developer’s site and it’s filled with various other apps by Google. Complete circle jerk.

I just did an experiment by tapping 20 headlines in Google News over each of their 9 news categories. That's 180 articles in all. Know how many articles had 2 or 3 lines of a story then blocked said article with a paywall? 168. That's right, 168 out of 180 articles couldn't be read because they were blocked. By the way I'm in the United States. Google should be ashamed and embarrassed.

It would be nice if article references posted in this app did not link to paid/subscription content.

Google News has gotten so biased since the election. It’s so clear that certain perspectives are getting pushed into my feed. As an example if you try and curate a specific story sometimes it keeps reappearing from different sources. Clearly an agenda is being pushed. Also the app has become more buggy over time, and it’s been over a month since the last update.

Google News has no filtering abilities; when you want to ‘like’ something and see more or ‘dislike’ and see less, you cannot. The news sources are all mostly hard left, left, and center-left. No ability to read various views, just the same mass mindless scop everyday. There is more out there and Google does not deliver.

Constant errors displaying content scrolling any long article. It’s done it in every version of the app and every version of iOS and device I’ve used it. Incredibly frustrating.

Begin an adventure in trying to avoid paywalls to read the news. No matter how many publications you subscribe to, there are always more. Even for ones you do, don’t expect to stay logged in between reading sessions. Love the AI curation but the experience of getting to your content is a nightmare. Also has a lot of bugs. My favorite is the UI just completely changing or jumping when you are deep into scrolling and reading and you then not knowing where you are. If you hate yourself, even just a little, this is the app for you.

Gulf of America

I have already seen all 5 articles this stupid app wants to show me, and none of them were remotely interesting. Not only that but I already told it that I’m not interested in 2 of these articles and it just keeps showing me the same tired news every single day. I guess now I get to wait a week and a half for this garbage to find one more boring article for me to not read.

Decided that they wanted to change the Name of the Gulf of Mexico. What utter stupidity!

This collaborationist app promotes regime propaganda. Better to use apps provided by trusted news sources directly.

Fascist bootlickers

This used to be good, but over the past few weeks has become a pile of random garbage. Stories about local weather or other extremely minor local news from towns thousands of miles away, local politics on the other side of the world in UK, crypto, dear abby, AI generated propaganda and lies from sources that are obviously not reputable news organizations, etc.. I see no evidence that blocking sources or requesting less of certain topics is improving things. It is broken.

Quitting your horrible, highly biased, racist-AI-designed app. Hope you figure it out, but since this probably has something to do with making money, I doubt you ever will

The same story is on for days, and the app crashes constantly while trying to read the new ones. Really only good for getting the headlines

Delete, delete, delete

Doesn't update enough. 3 hours ago, 10 hours ago. Hardly anything very recent where other news apps update constantly.

Often, I tap on an article, it opens, I read a few lines, then that news provider tells me there is a paywall but asks me to sign up. Somewhat frequently, when this happens, there is no way to go “back” to the main Google News screen (“for you”) and in order to continue using Google News I have to force close it. It’s been like this for years…

You have provided the ability to search and follow people, topics, etc. It would be appreciated if you could provide the option filter out stories about people, topics, etc.

Despite submitting well over 100 requests for fewer crypto stories over the course of many months, there are seventeen crypto stories in my feed today alone!

I LOVED the app up until I found a lot of very invasive settings, Google has no reason to extend. For instance, it holds a special setting for your photo library…. Unable to limit access.
